I finally decided on the varieties I would be going with for my fall garden. I went with Simpson lettuce, Danvers carrots, Chantenay carrots, basil and cilantro. With the exception of the basil, the rest will be grown from seeds. My wonderful friend Jerrie gave me a lovely basil plant from her garden. So, all I did with it was replant.
All of the plants I listed tell you to sow outside directly into the soil. So, I planted them in small pots to get them going and left them outside. I am watering them daily since it is so hot outside. I plan to thin out the seedlings when possible, most will go into containers outside and some, like the cilantro and basil will go inside on the window sill. I’ve decided to make a secondary window sill garden in my pottery studio since it is a south facing window with lots and lots of light. My only real concern is my cats really like this window and may not take kindly to losing it to plants.
