Since my garden hasn’t been producing what I expected to have for canning this summer, I headed to Clarksville’s downtown market to pick up some tomatoes and see what else was available. I was surprised to see the local tomatoes seemed to be so picked over, scarce and expensive in comparison to what I remember before. I can’t help but wonder how much the drought affected things. I picked up half a dozen Roma tomatoes and paid more than I expected at $2 a pound. I was happy to find a great deal on red bell peppers. I picked up 2 for $1. The downtown market isn’t a farmer’s market, so there are only about half a dozen produce booths, but quite a bit of other exciting things like pottery, jewelry, handmade crafts, organic hand made soaps, and even some live music.
