Recently I was inspired by an Ikea hack spice rack. I loved the simplicity of it, but since there is no Ikea here and they don’t ship that item, I had to get creative. I knew I had some basic requirements. I wanted it to look as simple as possible, be easy to install, extremely price conscious and I wanted to make use of just as much of the space I had available as possible. The space over my stove is exactly 30″ across, so I decided to go the custom route. I purchased a 1×3″ primed board from Home Depot and had it cut to 30″ increments. I also picked up a pack of four L-bracketsand screws.
I lined up the two shelves so they that were far enough apart to hold the spice bottlescomfortably. None of my spice bottles were larger than 2″, so the 3″ board was an ideal choice. I used a stud finder to find the studs, marked them. Then used a level to ensure the shelf was straight. I held up the L bracket under the shelf to make sure it was in the right spot and put a dot on the wall where the hole on the L bracket was. I then moved the shelf, screwed in the L brackets with a small drill, put the shelf back on and screwed the bracket to the shelf.
I am so happy all those bottles are out of my cabinet. I was so tired of knocking over half of them to get to something in the back. Now I can use the same spot to store bulk bottles to refill the bottle on my shelf. Win, win.
