This is by far, one of the easiest DIYs, with the biggest payoff I have ever done. You effectively are just buying and hanging something. Done!
Finding this in the right size might be the most complicated step of this process. I linked a one foot, by two foot version, rather than the 1’x1′ option I used. I found my decorative aluminum sheet at my local Home Depot for about $8. It is unfortunately not on their website for me to link for you. If you can’t find the smaller size and don’t have a ton of earrings, you can cut these with metal sheers. If the rough edges bother you. You can also frame these directly against the wood in a regular, empty (no glass or cardboard) frame. Keep in mind when choosing your design, that the bigger the openings in the aluminum, the more easily the earrings will slip out of it. Also, you will need something to keep them from laying flat against the wall so that you can access the earrings. I used large cabinet bumpers.
I didn’t want to frame or paint my sheet, so I didn’t do much other than clean off the price tag, stick the bumpers on the back corners and hang it. They come in different a few different colors and finishes, but if you want a custom color, you can also paint it. I used a command hook to hang it but, I would suggest using TWO instead of one, as I have the problem with the sheet needing to be weighted fairly evenly on both sides to hang straight.
Let me know if you try this and how it worked for you!
